CofD Rules Update

“Never in my house.. Ye abide by m’rules ya see…”

Here’s a broad list of which parts of the new “Chronicles of Darkness” Rules we’re adopting and which we’ll ignore or decide between us when the moment arises in-game.
Note: All of this can be discussed and is open to debate and change if needed. This is not set in stone and I’d rather work with Players in a democratic demonstration of consensus that dictate everything with no hope of Players influencing the process.

  • Combat
    • Weapon Damage: Needs to be lowered by point or two.
      **
  • Virtues and Vices
These are now optional Merits along with Natures and Demeanors that allows a Player to choose one or more of them for their Character. They then have the chance to earn WillPower (and XP) by experiencing them “properly” in-game.
  • Integrity
No, we’re not using this but instead use our own House Ruled SOUL that works, I hope much like NWoDs’ Morality System with a few minor tweaks.
  • MIND, BODY and SOUL
This is a pretty easy to understand House Ruled addition, I hope. MIND and SOUL are used as Health Indicators for the Characters Mental and Social/Spiritual States, just as BODY is our Physical Health.
  • Experience Costs
These remain unchanged, and as they were in NWoD 1. Though the differences between Character Creation and Ongoing Stories seems a little unfair, hopefully there won’t be too many persons or opportunities to “Min/Max” their points and I really do see a need to have Traits costing more the higher up the competency levels they go. It really should cost more XP to learn the more difficult things, right?
  • Conditions
Hmm.. Not sure I like the idea of these at all.. it all seems a little forced, complicated and hard work. Maybe we can consider these as we go along as it’s not necessary for starting off anyway.
  • Wounds
This is my own House Ruled concept of Physical, Mental and Social (or Spiritual) Wounds which are really Conditions but not quite like in CofD. Minor Wounds become Moderate Wounds when a second of same type/area hits while first still active.. becoming Major Wounds when, again, another hits while the Character is “Moderately Wounded”. Once you damage someone you may apply the successes to Wound Location Table to determine the Hit Location. If wounded you apply a temporary Condition until healed. If another Wound is applied to same location it becomes worse and moves up 1, from Wound to Affliction to Scar.
  • Tilts
Uggghhhh… Hate the idea of them. Yuck!
  • Beats
Hmm… Not sure, needs more consideration. I already wanted something to denote uses of Skills that may allow for in-game Skill Advancement through use.
